The San Diego Union-Tribune posted a feature on energy efficiency steps that are being taken at Petco Park, the home of the San Diego Padres baseball team.
The piece begins by saying that the team has reduced electricity use for lights and water by 40 percent compared to a typical year. A key, the piece says, was switching the ballpark lighting – including the massive banks that light the field – to LEDs. The number illuminating the field was reduced from 768 to about 400. More light and less glare are generated now, the story says.
Another big change involves waste. The story says that last year 73 percent of waste went to landfills. The goal is to dispose of 80 percent of waste in this manner this season.
In April, Schneider Electric detailed its involvement in the 20,000-seat T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The key is a building management system that it said will make the arena, which is a joint venture between AEG and MGM Resorts International – energy efficient and highly automated.
