Owens Corning is seeking a permit to deploy a 2.4 MW solar canopy system in the parking lot of its Toledo, Ohio, headquarters, the Toledo Blade reports. The panels will generate about 3 million kWh per year — close to 30 percent of the facility’s electric load.
The company entered into a power-purchase agreement with Constellation Energy to complete the project. Constellation will own, operate and maintain the solar canopy system.
If the Toledo Planning Commission approves the project and issues the permit, construction will begin in April and be complete in September. Construction will happen in two phases and will involve adding 85 spaces to the existing 890-space parking area. The solar panels will be mounted on steel and concrete supports. The system will include four electric vehicle charging stations with the capacity to add more if needed.
Owens Corning did not provide a cost for the project.
Owens Corning has another power purchase agreement with Constellation for a 2.6 MW solar generation system at its thermal and acoustical insulation plant in Delmar, New York.
