Orion Energy Systems says that the company has been awarded a $3.6 million project to install LED lighting systems in two US government facilities. Once the lighting retrofits are completed, the federal customers expect to cut their annual energy usage for lighting by approximately 50% per facility.

Although the enterprise-grade LED lighting and energy project solutions company did not specify which two US government facilities will be retrofitted, Orion did say they are replacing legacy T5, T8, compact fluorescent and HID lighting systems with energy-efficient LED lighting platforms and controls.

Previously the company secured contracts in 2017 to supply its LED lighting retrofit solutions to two US Veteran’s Health Administration hospitals in Florida and Washington. The same year, the US Navy chose Orion for $1.9 million in LED lighting retrofit projects for two naval bases.

At the end of 2017, Orion also announced plans to retrofit three unnamed US government facilities, replacing legacy systems with the company’s efficient LED lighting and controls.

The latest project is expected to start in the fiscal year 2019. Besides reducing energy usage for lighting, the project should also improve illumination at the facilities.

“These savings should allow the full recoupment of all project costs in just a few years, followed by two decades of continued savings and high performance,” said Orion CEO, Mike Altschaefl.
