Hiram College – which is in the Ohio town of the same name – has instituted energy efficiency programs that helped it cut more than 20 percent in expenditures on natural gas and electricity during the first six months of last year.
The school said that it also reduced carbon emissions by 2,550,601 pounds, which is the equivalent of what is produced by 243 vehicles. The story in Pollution Online said that 130,184 gallons of gas also was saved. The school worked with the Ohio Development Services Agency’s Loan Fund to finance the project. In all, the college saved more than $156,000 in six months.
