President Obama yesterday vetoed the Keystone XL pipeline bill, as promised.
Despite the president’s veto, TransCanada CEO Russ Girling said in a statement the company was “fully committed” to the planned 1,179-mile oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico and would work with the State Department to answer any questions it has about the project, Reuters reports.
The US Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate would attempt to override the veto by March 3. Despite the Republican majority, however, they are unlikely to have enough votes to overturn Obama’s veto.
The House of Representatives approved the bill earlier this month. It cleared the Senate in January.
