To help relieve pressure on the local wastewater treatment plant, Northern United Brewing Company (NUBC), a family owned brewery in Dexter, Michigan, is installing Cambrian Innovation's EcoVolt Mini, a system that converts wastewater into reusable quality water in a single container.
NUBC would like to make more beer to meet growing demand, but the community’s wastewater treatment facility is at capacity. Demands on the municipal treatment system is not only preventing NUBC from growing to meet demand, it also is preventing new food, beverage or agricultural businesses from setting up operations in the city. The EcoVolt Mini will help to free up capacity in Dexter’s treatment system and allow the brewery to grow.
In addition to eliminating more than 65 metric tons of CO2 per year, the EcoVolt Mini will support an expansion of NUBC’s production of more than 40 percent.
The system will remove 99.9 percent of pollutants and solids from the waste stream while producing reusable water and up to 11,500 therms of renewable biogas.
The all-in-one water reuse container comprises the bioelectrically enhanced EcoVolt Reactor and the EcoVolt Membrane Bioreactor (MBR). It is designed for food and beverage producers that generate 15,000–20,000 gallons of wastewater a day. The system can be automated, allowing industrial producers to reduce the operating expenses associated with dealing with their wastewater.
NUBC’s EcoVolt Mini is scheduled to be installed during the spring of 2016.
