Cree has introduced the KR8 and LR6 LED downlights. The KR8 is an architectural downlight that gives the company’s portfolio to handle ceiling heights from 8 feet to 40 feet. The KR8 covers commercial and retail applications with 6,000 lumens to 8,000 lumens outputs. It incorporates Cree’s WaveMax technology and has a dual optic design with beam angles as tight as 15 degrees.
The LR6 provides as much as 1,800 lumens of light with a CLI of 90. It deliver 100 lumens per watt and uses 89 percent and 58 percent less energy than an incandescent and CFL it replaces. It also offers Flip-Clip technology that secures it to six-inch IC and non-IC housings.
LEDs are becoming ever more common, which has led Finland’s Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Centre is developing method of measuring LED luminosity with greater than previous accuracy, according to Optics. The new approach, the researchers say, reduce the luminous efficacy measurements from 5 percent to 1 percent. The results were initially published in “Light: Science and Applications.”
