The New Hampshire State Senate has narrowly approved Senate Bill 492, which would increase funding to energy efficiency initiatives in schools, town offices and for low-income residents, according to The Concord Monitor.
The bill, the story says, redistributes proceeds the state receives from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), which is a cap-and-trade program. It will do so by lifting the cap on how much funding can be used for the energy efficiency moves.
Nine states in the northeast participate in RGGI. New Hampshire, the story says, is expected to get $27 million from the program this year. The bulk of the proceeds now are returned to ratepayers via rebates.
Earlier this month, the New Hampshire House passed HB1116, which would raise the cap on the amount of rooftop solar energy generated by residential and commercial entities that can be sold back to the grid. The limit would rise from 50 MW to 100 MW.
