National Office Furniture has achieved SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification for nearly all of its seating lines.
The furniture emission standard set by Scientific Certification Systems indicates that concentrations for individual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) do not exceed one-half of the Chronic Reference Exposure Levels set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.
National has now achieved the Indoor Advantage Gold mark for its entire seating portfolio bar one series. The company’s seating is also certified ANSI/BIFMA level 1 by the American National Standards Institute and the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association. The seating is available with FSC certified wood.
National said it is transitioning all its casegoods and tables to IntegraClear, a UV finish that the company says is environmentally-friendly. IntegraClear is a water-based finish cured via ultraviolet (UV) light, resulting in a low-emitting, energy saving method that National says produces exceptional durability and clarity in their wood products.
The Hiland and Captivate series now feature IntegraClear, enabling them to move up to a level 2 certification of the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Sustainability Standard. That mark evaluates furniture on materials selection and usage, energy, impacts on human and ecosystem health, and social responsibility impacts.
Both series earn SCS Indoor Advantage certification as a result of the UV finish.
SCS Indoor Advantage Gold and ANSI/BIFMA level 2 certified products can help contribute points towards a building earning a LEED rating.
National’s products are available on the online tool ecoScorecard, which allows customers to carry out quick sustainable product research, calculations and documentation for LEED and other green rating systems.
National Office Furniture, which is based in Jasper, Ind., is a unit of Nasdaq-listed Kimball International.
