An Indiana candy manufacturer has voluntarily recalled more of its Toxic Waste candy, which first made headlines earlier this month.
Circle City Marketing and Distributing, trading as Candy Dynamics, has now recalled 0.3 oz (8 g) size pieces of its Toxic Waste Nuclear Sludge Chew Bars, after recalling the 0.7 oz (20 g) bars on January 13.
The recalls now apply to all Nuclear Sludge products.
Testing by the company indicated that the smaller candies were below the FDA limit but some contained elevated levels of lead that could potentially cause health problems, WANE of Fort Wayne, Indiana reported.
The latest recall applies to products distributed from May 2009 through January 2011.
The bars, which come in cherry, green apple and blue raspberry, are imported from Pakistan and were distributed nationwide in stores and through mail order.
They were sold in 30-count, 80-count and 120-count bags, which were still being sold on the company website at the time of the first recall.
The distributor sells other products under the Toxic Waste brand – which it bills as “hazardously sour candy” – but none of these have been recalled.
