The World Green Buildings 2016 report found that green buildings are doubling every three years and that the strongest growth is in emerging economies.
The report – from Dodge Data & Analytics – was funded by United Technologies and is based on a survey of more than 1,000 architects, engineers, contractors, owners, specialists and consultants in 69 countries, the company said. Respondents said that more than 60 percent of respondents’ projects will be green by 2018 and those initiatives in the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa would double during that time frame. Forty-six percent of future projects are in commercial buildings.
While green buildings are proliferating – at least according to Dodge Data & Analytics Report – another report suggests that small buildings are not following suite. A study released last summer by CBRE Group and Maastricht University found that only 5 percent of small buildings qualify as green.
