In the next few days, President-elect Barack Obama is expected to announce the nominations of Steven Chu as secretary of energy, Lisa P. Jackson as administrator of the EPA, and Nancy Sutley as the head of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Carol Browner is expected to be nominated as the “energy czar,” but the scope of her job remains under discussion.
New York Times reported that Browner's thinking on climate change, environmental regulation, energy conservation and new technology are very much in line with those of President-elect Obama.
Wall Street Journal called the nominees, “carbon busters,” and said “Mr. Obama is stocking his energy shop with the greenest of greens who want to move fast on very aggressive climate agenda.” The Wall Street Journal also wrote that the nominations are heavy with Browner's acolytes.
Some of Browner's adversaries are concerned that her return will veer the new administration too far left. Myron Ebell, director of energy and global warming policy for the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told USA Today that "Carol Browner is a bad choice...She worked for Al Gore and shares many of his wildest opinions."
