Municipal solid waste company LondonWaste has a new fleet of Mercedes-Benz eight-wheelers vehicles, fitted with Hyva hook-loading equipment to handle materials for recycling. The vehicles access Reuse & Recycling Centres in and around the North and East London area and will collect and deliver a range of materials (cardboard, wood, hardcore, green waste, hard plastics paper) for recycling, in addition to furniture and other household items such as beds, wardrobes and bicycles for reuse, the company says.
The vehicles meet the latest standard for exhaust emission regulations, Euro VI. This standard further reduces nitrous oxides.
The vehicles are also fitted with Fleetboard, a web-based on-board telematics data capture system that allows LondonWaste to collect vehicle-use data on a regular basis, review driver performance, track fuel consumption and record other relevant information such as harsh braking, driver speeds, engine revving and location.
Electric garbage trucks will collect trash and recycling in Northern California this summer using an electric engine system developed by Tesla co-founder Ian Wright and his company, Wrightspeed.
