coulomb_gmsaturnTo emphasize its "green" attributes, a new North Carolina McDonald's location will add an electric vehicle charging station.

The restaurant location, in Cary, N.C., which was built with an eye toward sustainability and energy efficiency, is offering drivers of electric cars the ability to charge their vehicles while they eat a meal. Its grand opening is July 14, according to a press release.

The restaurant is working with NovaCharge. The company installs ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations.

The charging stations feature:

  • Secure, authorized access to charging, which helps eliminate energy theft and cord theft.
  • Networked ability for drivers to find and navigate to open charging stations.
  • Control functions that allow utilities to optimize grid use.

As more electric vehicle charging stations come on line, more and more retailers are starting to sell the vehicles, including major names.

For instance, this summer Best Buy will begin selling an electric motorcycle, reports WSJonline.com. The Brammo Enertia can travel 45 miles at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and plugs into a standard wall outlet.
