Six western Massachusetts communities have gotten state grants for energy efficiency and clean energy projects, according to MassLive.
The communities are Adams, West Springfield, Bernardston, Egremont, Stockbridge and Windsor. The site says that they are among 19 cities and towns that have been designated “green communities” by the state’s Department of Energy Resources. This gives them the right to divide $3.1 million in grants.
The program has been joined by 155 communities, all of which pledge to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent during five years. Of the five getting the new grants, Bernardston got the least ($131,290) and Stockbridge the most ($222,765).
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has approved lower basic service electricity rates for EverSource retail customers in western Massachusetts. The new rates take effect on January 1, 2016.
