The borough of Naugatuck, CT, is sifting through a tremendous number of options as it seeks to replace its metal halide lighting.
The Republican-American says that the borough has formed an alternative energy committee. Its first goal is to replace most of, if not all, of the 1,800 street lights and lamp posts, according to the story.
It is working with ESCO of Lenox, MA on the project. The research will look at the different type of LEDs available as well as attractive add-ons, such as placement of surveillance cameras and Wi-Fi with the LEDs. The LEDs are expected to save about $200,000 annually, the story said.
The Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee will not be decorated by LEDs, according to a story that initially appeared in Milwaukee Magazine. The original design called for the decorative lighting, but the $226 million price tag proved too steep.
