Adopting measures to reduce its global carbon footprint, Manpower Inc. has avoided 400,000 pounds of CO2 emissions by holding its annual Global Leadership Team meeting virtually, which reduced air travel by one million miles, according to the company's 2009 corporate responsibility report.
The global employment services firm says it has made several strides in creating a greener work culture in 2009. As an example, the company's world headquarters in Milwaukee achieved the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
Manpower was also named to Newsweek's green rankings of the greenest big companies in America and to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the second year in a row.
In 2008, Manpower operations reported that conservation efforts resulted in saving over 63,000 reams of paper, which is the equivalent of 3,812 trees. The company also recycled 1,056,260 pounds of paper and plastic products and 12,000 printer cartridges.
Manpower is currently developing measurement methodologies to track its progress in reducing waste and energy consumption, according to the report.
