The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs has upgraded its lighting system by replacing the hotel's incandescent lighting with more than 30,000 energy-efficient lamps. The upgrade is expected to save about $280,000 per year in energy costs and reduce annual electricity consumption by 4.9 million kilowatt hours.
The installation, which was done by Oklahoma-based Performance Consulting Group (PCG), was completed last December. The energy service provider also helped the hotel qualify for more than $225,000 in business incentives.
The hotel was not planning to make any changes, but PCG made such a good business case for it that Broadmoor decided to invest the capital dollars - even though they were unbudgeted, said Stephen Bartolin, Jr., the hotel group's president and CEO.
It will take just over one year to recuperate the project's cost, he said.
