Advanced lithium-ion battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution plans to launch a new residential energy storage system next month to meet users’ energy needs.
Dubbed the LG Energy Solution enblock S, the energy storage system (ESS) is a stackable modular residential solution that gives customers options to stack three, four, or five battery module assemblies (BMAs) along with a specialized battery control unit.
The system has various energy outputs, depending on the needs of consumers:
Users can increase their energy capacity by making additional module purchases. According to LG, the system is easy to install and is “plug and play.”
The system’s launch comes as some states are focusing on residential energy storage as a means to avoid outages during extreme weather events. In Vermont, Green Mountain Energy recently announced its plans to deploy energy storage batteries to residents who want them in an effort to fortify its power grid and reduce the instances of power outages by leaning on batteries and microgrids.
Texas also said earlier this year it was connecting consumer-owned, small energy devices, such as battery energy storage systems, backup generators, and electric vehicle chargers, to the power grid. This method also targeted reducing and mitigating power outages during extreme weather.
LG Energy Solution’s system is available in both wall-mounted and standing configurations and is also suitable for outdoors. The system can also be upgraded with additional module purchases if customers have additional energy requirements, such as for an EV.
"LG Energy Solution enblock S is a versatile, expandable, and simple to install energy storage system," Matthew Unverferth, residential ESS sales manager with the LGES ESS Team in North America, said in a statement. “To offer the highest level of product safety, LG Energy Solution enblock S was laboratory tested and proven compliant, receiving the industry standard UL9540A fire safety rating.”
The company also stated users can track their energy consumption through the LG Energy Solution Monitor app. Further, LG Energy Solutions will offer a retrofit later this year, called the enblock S+, that enables users to acquire the enblock S battery in conjunction with LG Energy Solution’s new AC-coupled inverter.
