Computer manufacturer Lenovo announced that its ThinkVision monitors already meet or exceed the EPA's Energy Star 5.0 criteria, which will be completely finalized in March '09 and go into effect in October.
Many of the new monitors use 30 to 60 percent less energy than previous ThinkVision models.
Criteria for computers was released in mid-November and will take effect in July '09. Twelve of Lenovo's ThinkPad laptops, several Ideapad laptops, and two desktop PCs (the ThinkCentre M58 and M58p) now meet or exceed the new energy efficiency criteria, Lenovo said.
The laptops use the following energy-saving technologies: solid-state drives, LED backlit displays, low-power processors, and a power management system that helps users monitor their energy usage and conserve battery life.
In September, Lenovo joined the The Climate Group and unveiled a electronics recycling program. At that time it also set a target of improving its carbon efficiency by 10 percent between 2007 and 2012.
