Shangri-La Industries unveiled Hangar 25, which the company is touting as the world's first aviation hangar to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
Located at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., the company says the hangar features include a solar array that produces 110 percent of the building's operational electricity needs; plumbing that reduces water by 60 percent through low flush toilets; electric vehicles powered by the solar array; and daylight harvesting.
“This project is proof that the bottom line in green construction is black. Companies can reduce their carbon footprint while maximizing short-term and long-term cost savings," said John Picard, an environmental and sustainable development consultant.
Avjet Corp. is the operating partner of Hangar 25.
