LDS Church Lauded by Rocky Mountain Power

rocky_mountain_powerThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Rocky Mountain Power’s wattsmart Business Partner of the Year in the Wasatch Front, according to The Deseret News.

Since partnering with Rocky Mountain Power in 2007, the LDS Church has saved more than 16 million kilowatt hours of energy, which the story says is enough to power 1,777 average Utah homes for a year. It saved almost 1.3 million kWh this year and 2.6 million kWh in 2014.

LDS has undertaken more than 600 energy-related projects, according to the story. They include transitioning from incandescent lighting to LEDs, using motion sensors and installing solar power in a building.

In August, three companies from the Yakima Valley in Washington were named Pacific Power’s wattsmart Business Partners of the Year. Shields Bag and Printing, Kenyon Zero Storage, Inc., and Matson Fruit saved more than $142,000 in energy costs and earned $354,000 in incentives from the utility.
