Tecogen sold a tri-generation energy system to a Beaux Art-style bank building located in Manhattan's Lower East Side. The NYC Landmark building is undergoing an extensive restoration and conversion to an upscale hotel.
The tri-generation energy system includes two INV-100 Ultra InVerde CHP units, providing electricity as well as hot water for space heating and domestic hot water. During the warmer months, the hot water will be routed to a thermally activated absorption chiller that will produce 84 tons of "free" cooling for the building. The patented microgrid feature of the InVerde product will be used to provide electrical power to the hotel as well as backup power in the event of a utility outage.
Part of the hotel's restoration plan is pursuing Gold level certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. In addition to the energy savings benefit, the Tecogen natural gas-powered tri-generation system will significantly reduce the building's carbon footprint, operating at near zero pollution levels, which contributes to the LEED certification point scoring system.
This building has also entered into a long-term maintenance contract of the tri-generation energy system with Tecogen.
