The Krystal Company, a chain of restaurants, received $64,210 in rebates from Georgia Power last week.
The rebate was awarded in a ceremony recognizing the completion of upgrades at 55 restaurants across Georgia. The reduction in energy use via the LEDs could cut energy use by 2.8 million kWh, according to the utility. The company upgraded hundreds of lighting fixtures to LEDs. The lights improve illumination at drive-through windows, rear employee entrances and in the storefronts. Krystal has more than 350 restaurants in 11 states.
Because of their long hours and generally brightly lit nature, fast food restaurants are big energy users. Subway, one of the biggest chains in the country, recently said that it will use LEDs in all new and remodeled locations. Last year, the LEDs that the chain had in place saved 21.9 million kWh, according to the story at Chain Store Age.
