KONE announced that it will offer a range of elevators during 2009 which will reduce energy consumption by 30 precent, compared to its current volume models. In addition, the company is aiming to use 50 percent less energy in its new elevators by 2010.
The company says the next generation of KONE machine-room-less elevators will be powered by a energy-efficient hoisting machine and have features such as LED lights in the elevator cabins.
Jussi Oijala, senior vice president of KONE Technology, says, “Buildings account for approximately 40 percent of the world’s energy needs and elevators can account for up to 10 percent of a building’s energy consumption.”
At this year's Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, United Technology Corp presented elevators with regenerative drives.
