Ithaca College and The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) said that the campus now is getting the equivalent of 10 percent of its electricity from solar power. This is being done via net metering and a remote 2.9 MW solar array.
The project will give the college credit on its bill during the next 25 years for energy garnered from a 9,000 panel solar farm located on a 15-acre site in Seneca, NY, which is about 40 miles from the campus. The solar farm will generate about 3.55 million kWh of electricity during its first year of operation. The project received $1.6 million in funding through NY-Sun, which is a $1 billion initiative administered by NYSERDA.
The project initially was announced in February.
