IT Managers Not So Interested in PUE

While big name companies such as Amazon, Google and Apple are into using renewables and energy efficiency technologies to “green” their data centers, the rest of the data center industry isn’t so interested in environmental concerns, but rather, they’re primarily interested in technologies that will save money, according to a blog on GreenHouseData.

According to a GreenHouseData poll of 166 IT professionals, while two thirds of IT professionals say overall environmental impact is either a minor consideration or a low priority, 36 percent think cooling design is very important and 33 percent say total energy consumption is very important.

Surprisingly, only 16 percent of respondents say power usage effectiveness (PUE) is very important when choosing a provider. A full 25 percent of IT professionals think PUE is “not at all important.”

Green House Data concludes that organizations are looking to data center providers to deliver cost savings and reliability. If energy efficiency is how they do it, that’s great, but not the primary concern.
