AEG Worldwide-owned sports arena the Staples Center in Los Angeles has earned ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.
LA's Staples Center, opened in 1999, is home turf to four professional sports franchises and hosts countless entertainment and cultural events. Its environmentally conscious operations, part of its AEG 1EARTH initiative, range from the use certified 'green' cleaning chemicals (60% of all cleaning products have this distinction) to its 3,000 solar paneled rooftop, a 364 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar system. The solar energy system, when paired with an additional 166 kW system on top of the roof of Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, is touted to reach reduction levels of more than 10,000 tons of CO2, 27 tons of sulfur dioxide and 33 tons of nitrous oxide over 25 years. Nearly 500 waterless urinals save the equivalent of 2 million gallons of water a year.
AEG plans to implement EMS programs at 15 of its 120 arenas, stadiums and clubs over the next five years.
