Ingram Micro, which describes itself as the world’s largest technology distributor and supply-chain services provider, has received ISO 14001 certification for its North American operating unit.
"The 14001 certification comes on the heels of our nearly 200-spot jump in Newsweek's 2010 Green Rankings and a similar certification in Sweden in 2009,” said Keith Bradley, senior executive vice president and president, North America. “It reinforces our commitment to sustainable business operations throughout the supply chain.”
The company operates in more than 150 countries and says it is the only global broad-based IT distributor with operations in Asia.
Transport and logistics company DB Schenker has received ISO 14001 certification for its operations in Australia and New Zealand.
“Our Environmental Management System builds on and complements the other initiatives we have in place already such as reducing truck movements by shifting containers to rail freight and successfully introducing intermodal transport concepts,” Schenker Australia and New Zealand CEO Ron Koehler said.
Within its DB Eco Program, the company has developed products and services including green consulting, terminals, logistic networks, and the carbon calculation tool EcoTransit. “The DB Group will reduce its specific carbon output worldwide, that is, its carbon emissions relative to its transportation volume, by 20 percent between 2006 and 2020,” Koehler said.
Ink maker Plextronics has achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for its conductive polymers and inks for use in printed electronic and solar photovoltaic applications.
Plastics company Gabriel-Chemie UK’s Kent facility has been registered as complying with 14001. The U.K. facility joins existing 14001-certified plants in Germany, Austrai and the Czech Republic. Managing director Philip Watkins said: “Our EMS identifies how our activities affect the environment, ensures compliance with current statutes and regulations, gives us a strategic advantage, and identifies potential cost savings.
“It has contributed to fulfilling our commitment to reducing our relative energy consumption by 12% from 2006 to 2010, under the British Plastics Federation Climate Change Agreement.”
Avanti Wind Systems has just completed the last stage of the certification audit for ISO 14001.
The company makes safety equipment for wind turbines maintenance.
