H.E. Diego Pardow Lorenzo, Chile’s Minister of Energy, highlighted the country’s transition from hydro-dependence to solar leadership, sharing, “Our focus now is on extending solar operational hours through storage and ensuring benefits reach our most vulnerable households. Only together can we scale technologies, share knowledge, and secure a competitive, sustainable energy future for our people.”
Grenada’s Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy, H.E. Kerryne Zennelle James, underscored the urgency for small island states, noting that 65% of the region’s power already comes from renewables—twice the global average. “ISA’s strategic shift from ambition to action is timely,” she said, calling the committee “a crucial platform to align our priorities and unlock collective progress.”
Key Agreements and Outcomes
Mr. Ashish Khanna, ISA Director General, noted that ISA membership in the region has grown by 50% since 2021, now encompassing 26 countries. “This presents a concrete vision and action plan for the LAC region—a clear shift from ambition to action,” he said.
Incoming COP30 representative H.E. Paulo Roberto Soares Pacheco of Brazil stressed that clean, affordable energy is “inseparable from the fight against climate change and the path to sustainable development,” welcoming ISA’s focus on supporting least-developed countries and small islands.
The meeting brought together ministers, ambassadors, industry leaders, and development partners to align policies, mobilize finance, and foster innovation to meet growing energy needs sustainably.
