IO Expanding in Phoenix

data center interior Energy ManageIO Data Centers LLC will expand its Phoenix data center holdings significantly during the next six to eight years, according to The Phoenix Business Journal.

The site reports that plans are to create a three-story datacenter that will cost between $400 million and $500 million. The company, which already runs a datacenter in the area, bought nine acres of land south of its current location for $8.55 million.

The facility will be constructed from pre-fabricated modules. The story says that the plan is for the facility to be fully powered by renewable energy.

The piece says that IO created a separate modular data center hardware and software  into a separate company called BaseLayer in December 2014.

Modular datacenters have the potential to cut energy demands and otherwise build efficiencies.
