Last week, Retail Energy Buyer introduced new electricity price benchmark data from the Energy Research Council. The data set aggregates price offers from numerous retail energy providers. The value of this data is twofold. First, comparing offers over a period of a year or longer can provide a long-term perspective on the direction the market has taken – and may continue to take. Second, the short-term price movements shown in the tables can help to analyze whether the long-term trends are continuing, or if new trends are emerging. It is also important to understand that, while short-term price movements can signify changing market dynamics, they can also reflect consistent seasonal patterns of rising and falling prices.
Note: This data set aggregates hundreds of retail commercial energy offers. It does not give customers access to proprietary energy price information.
