Intel will pay a $143,000 civil penalty after failing to report fluoride emissions.
The Hillsboro Tribune reports the semiconductor manufacturing company has signed an agreement with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality under which it will pay the penalty for air quality permit violations and apply for a permit to emit flourides by the end of the year. Intel began construction of its D1X manufacturing facility without proper approval, the newspaper says.
The company has also agreed to report its emissions on a public website, exploreintel.com.
Currently, the website shows environmental information for the facility — such as 10 million gallons of water conserved and 84 percent of solid waste recycled — but does not yet include information on fluoride emissions.
An Intel spokeswoman tells the Hillsboro Tribune that information will be posted “shortly.”
