John Deere and Intel have joined 40 new members in setting tougher environmental regulations as part of EPA's National Environmental Performance Track program. Dallas, another new member, intends to reduce water consumption at all city sites by 5 percent over a three-year period; a reduction of 49 million gallons of water used.
Other new members include: facilities from U.S. Postal Service, Baxter Healthcare, Forever Resorts and Xanterra and Dyess and Barksdale Air Force Bases in Texas and Louisiana;
Both public and private individual facilities may apply for Performance Track membership. The membership is earned by demonstrating and maintaining a strong record of environmental compliance; setting three-year goals for continuous improvements in environmental performance beyond legal requirements; having internal systems in place to manage environmental impacts; engaging in community outreach; and consistently reporting results.
Since the program was launched in 2000, members have set more than 4,000 goals to benefit the environment. As a result, Performance Track members have reduced 310,000 metric tons of GHG emissions, 13,000 tons of nitrogen oxide, and 52,000 tons of hazardous waste.
