IKEA announced that starting this month, the company will no longer be offering plastic or paper bags at any of its U.S. stores. They will only offer reusable bags.
The new announcement comes as IKEA reports that plastic bag reduction continues at 92 percent; higher than the 50 percent reduction goal set in 2007.
In March 2007, the company launched “Bag the Plastic Bag” program and set a goal of reducing its US stores' plastic bag consumption by 50 percent; from 70 million to 35 million plastic bags in the first year.
In August, the company announced plans to eventually sell solar panes and smart meters in its stores.
