The first commercial solar farm in Idaho has opened, according to The Idaho Statesman.
Idaho Solar 1, which consists of 174,800 solar panels, is south of Boise. It produces 40 MW of electricity daily. The electricity will be used by Idaho Power for 20 years, according to the story. The farm was built by DEPCOM Power, an Arizona-based company that is owned by Entropy Investment Management.
The location of the Idaho Solar 1 project was switched three times since it was announced six years ago. The current location – where the facility actually was built – is closer to Idaho Power’s transmission lines, the story says.
The Star Tribune reported this spring that there is a push back against solar farms in Wright County, Minnesota. Residents fear that farms will alter the landscape and take over too much farmland.
