Hara is collaborating with Hewlett-Packard to offer an energy management and emissions reduction software package, based in part on a new platform unveiled by HP today.
The integrated package will use HP’s Energy and Sustainability Management (ESM) application and services, launched today, as well as Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) software.
ESM includes services and technology designed to help clients achieve energy and cost savings; monitor, measure and analyze resource efficiency; track greenhouse gas emissions; and align sustainability practices with business goals.
The package includes a "roadmap" that directs actions to achieve short- and long-term energy and cost savings, HP said. The services include consultation with HP to identify energy efficiency opportunities in buildings, technology, the supply chain and other functions.
Hara said the combined software and services would help companies from a number of industries, including retail, utilities, technology and consumer goods, to optimize their use of energy and other resources while minimizing environmental impacts.
“Together, this highly complementary offering will deliver comprehensive energy and sustainability management that is focused on financial performance, creating value and mitigating risk,” Hara CEO Amit Chatterjee said in a blog post.
HP and Hara are already working together on a project for enterprise communications company Avaya. Their combined work for that client provides an overall view of energy and resource consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact, the companies said.
This helps Avaya manage strategies related to energy efficiency and natural resource usage, Hara said. Avaya has a goal to reduce its carbon emissions by 15 percent by 2015.
Other recent wins for Hara include having its EEM software selected by US Bank, the fifth-largest bank in the country, and by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA).
Last November Verdantix ranked Hara as one the top ten leaders in the carbon and energy software market, and one of the ten most likely to benefit from increased spending on sustainable business software in 2011.
HP has scored highly in several rankings of companies’ environmental performance, including a Newsweek ranking of the largest 500 U.S. companies, and a report on the most environmentally responsive tech companies by the Beijing-based non-profit Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs.
A recent survey of National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM) members and attendees at a NAEM conference suggested that companies are getting more selective about what applications they choose to integrate with their environmental management software.
