Hospital Reduces Energy 12%

Posted

BCS energy manageLane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas, worked with Building Controls and Services (BCS) to complete electrical and mechanical upgrades throughout the hospital. The hospital had an outdated, unreliable electrical power distribution system that could not support newer medical equipment. Additionally, much of the HVAC equipment was failing so the hospital was facing mounting replacement costs.

The improvement program included a structured financial solution, enabling the hospital to fit the payments into its budget. Specific goals of the project included upgrading the electrical power distribution systems to make immediate Wye power conversions, which support newer medical equipment. Interior lighting upgrades were also performed to produce energy savings to help offset the life- cycle cost of the program.

HVAC improvements included repairs on the chiller, new compressors and recommissioning throughout the building systems. The eight-month, $260,000 retrofit project will not only address major issues with power and deferred maintenance, but it will provide the hospital a 12 percent energy reduction.
