Hospital Installs CHP System

York Teaching Hospital in the UK began operation of its new combined heat and power energy system. The CHP system is expected to save $19.7 million during its 15-year lifecycle, and all savings have been guaranteed by Vital Energi under an energy savings performance contract (ESPC).

The $7 million project will also generate financial savings of $1,321,000 per year, which is equal to a 26 percent reduction on current energy bills and operating costs.

Vital Energi began the project by first helping the hospital to reduce the amount of energy it was using before it designed and installed the CHP-powered energy system based on the reduced demand.
