The Rock Island Arsenal Garrison is being modernized by Honeywell.
The vendor and the facility in Rock Island, IL – the largest government-owned and operated arsenal in the United States, according to American City and County – has entered into a $22.4 million, 15-year Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) to replace coal-fired heating with high-efficiency boilers that will reduce emissions.
The changeover, the story says, will impact about 30 buildings and help the facility meet Environmental Protection Agency standards. The project will cut energy and water consumption by about 11 percent and 12 percent, respectively. About 20,800 metric tons of emissions will be eliminated.
Earlier this month, Siemens signed a contract to act as a long term partner to the Corpus Christi Army Depot. The $24 million ESPC is an effort to comply with Executive Order 13693, which mandates that federal facilities reduce energy consumption by 2.5 percent annually and potable water consumption by 2 percent per year by 2025.
