Independent analyst firm Verdantix outlined some energy management dynamics for 2015 and beyond in a new report “Hot Trends for Energy Management in 2015" – dated December 2014. Verdantix predicts that more providers will move into the small to medium enterprise (SME) energy management market with lower-cost solutions that are software-based or use wireless technologies.
In 2014, momentum built in the energy management space catering to SMEs. For example, British utility E.ON began working with Boston-based FirstFuel Software to help British SMEs use energy-saving tools usually only available to larger industrial and commercial enterprises.
Verdantix’s report finds utilities will be in a strong position to leverage their existing relationship with SMEs to provide basic energy services, such as personalized energy insights supported by software solutions from firms such as C3 Energy, FirstFuel, Opower and Pulse Energy (acquired by EnerNOC).
