Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada has reduced its carbon footprint by reducing its electrical consumption by a little over 11 percent, translating into a big savings for the environment and the company.
Through its partnership with Evergreen Energy Solutions, an energy consulting firm based in Incline Village, Nevada, the golf course has reduced annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 75 tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by more than 1,200 pounds, while lowering its monthly electric bill by $1,000. Edgewood hopes to increase its carbon emission reductions by over 75 tons in the next few years.
Evergreen Energy Solutions said it provides turnkey solutions that lower an organization's electricity costs by 10 percent or more, increase equipment life by up to 50 percent, reduce carbon emissions, eliminate power surges and sags, and improve power quality. The company's goal is to help organizations reduce carbon emissions by more than 100,000 tons and sulfur emissions by more than 600,000 pounds over the next five years.
Golf course clubs are working on a number of ways to increase their sustainability. For example, Barona Creek Golf Club in California recently implemented a new turf reduction project to lower irrigation and maintenance needs, hoping to reduce fuel and energy consumption and to use less fertilizer and maintenance chemicals.
