Greenhouse gas emissions from the world’s 500 largest businesses rose 3.1 percent from 2010 to 2013, according to a Thomson Reuters report written in collaboration with BSD Consulting.
During this time the UN says major companies should have seen a 4.2 percent reduction to keep global temperatures within a 2 degrees Celsius increase to limit climate change.
The biggest greenhouse gas emitters in 2013 were PetroChina, China Petroleum and Chemical Corp, and ArcelorMittal, the report says.
Companies with a more than 10 percent decline in emissions between 2010 and 2013 were led by ConocoPhillips, Valero Energy and Dominion Resources.
