The West Aurora (IL) School Board awarded three contracts last week. The awards are part of an $84.2 million building campaign. In April, West Aurora District 129 voters approved a building referendum for capital improvements, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The contracts total $6,230,329 and include geothermal system drilling at 10 schools. Forty-four to 562 boreholes will be dug, each to a depth of 400 feet. Each will be near buildings but won’t impact play areas, the story said. The contracts were given to Tri-County Irrigation & Plumbing, QC Geothermal and Efflandt Geothermal Drilling. The district has intergovernmental agreements with the city of Aurora for $1.7 million and Kane County for $3.2 million in Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds, which enable lower interest rates to fund energy projects.
In August, 120 500-foot geothermal boreholes were drilled in the Guthrie Green area of downtown Tulsa. The drilling occurred prior to construction of the Tulsa Paper Company and Hardesty Art Center Buildings.
