General Dynamics has negotiated purchasing contracts for green power that it says will save the company more than $150,000 a year.
World Energy Solutions helped General Dynamics to procure 50 percent renewable power for the company's Land Systems division headquarters, and 25 percent renewable power for its Scranton, Penn., facility.
General Dynamics bought power for both sites over the World Energy Exchange, a partner in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative’s (RGGI) cap and trade program for CO2 emissions. The energy commitments will begin in January 2012.
Altogether, the power agreements will reduce the division's CO2 emissions by more than 6,450 metric tons a year, the company said.
World Energy says it has handled more than $20 billion in energy transactions, demand response and environmental commodities for its customers, creating more than $1 billion in savings for them.
General Dynamics Land Systems provides land and amphibious combat systems, subsystems and components including the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) combat vehicles, the Abrams tank, and the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. General Dynamics Land Systems has had a corporate sustainability policy since 2008.
