Gas Utility Caught Misrepresenting Competitors' Prices

Posted

The Hartford Courant reports that Southern Connecticut Gas has recently been publishing an Internet-based ad that compares its own current gas heating prices to higher prices paid for heating oil last year. However, heating oil prices have dropped from around $3.50 per gallon last year to $2.50 this year. A representative of the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association called it “blatantly deceptive.” When a reporter called SCG about the ad, the company said it “reviewed recent heating oil prices” and took down the ad.
