Spain-headquartered Gamesa Technology unveiled its G114-2.5 MW wind turbine at the American Wind Energy Association’s Windpower 2013 conference in Chicago this week.

The new turbine, designed for use in Class II winds, inherits and enhances most of the technologies, components, and subsystems of Gamesa’s 2.0 MW turbine platform, which has more than 15,000 MW of installed capacity in 28 countries.

The G114-2.5 MW model promises 29 percent more energy production than Gamesa’s G97-2.0 MW turbine while lowering the cost of energy 10 percent, according to the company.

The new turbine incorporates a 2.5 MW generator and converter system. The G114-2.5 MW features two tower heights - 93 meters and 120 meters - with other heights under development. It also has a new 56-meter reinforced blade that is designed specifically for Class II sites.

The G114-2.5 MW turbine will be ready for delivery in 2014.
