Futuremark Paper Inks Deals with Hearst, Pepsi, Others

Hearst Magazines, PepsiCo and the Sierra Club are among a list of new clients now using FutureMark Paper Company's recycled paper.

Other organizations newly signed by FutureMark include American Heart Association, American Airlines, JCPenney, Ms. Magazine, pizza company Papa John’s, the Philadelphia Eagles and U.S. News & World Report.

The paper company says it is the only company in North America capable of producing 100 percent recycled, coated, magazine-grade paper.

FutureMark Paper’s new customers have helped the company grow, despite what is calls a “volatile, slow market” for publication paper.  While coated paper shipments are down 8 percent year-on-year in 2011, shipments of FutureMark high-recycled paper is up 7 percent, the company says.

In 2011, paper made by FutureMark displaced the need to cut down 2.3 million trees and conserved more than 1.3 trillion BTUs of energy - enough to power about 14,600 American homes for one year, the company says. Paper produced by FutureMark also used about 911 million fewer gallons of water and created approximately 133.7 million fewer pounds of greenhouse gases, than the equivalent amount of traditional paper would have, the company says.

In August last year, Futuremark announced that it had signed contracts with Home Depot, Macy’s, Walmart, Whole Foods and American Eagle Airlines’ in-flight magazine “Latitudes.”
