French Energy Company ENGIE Says Movement Toward Renewables ‘Almost Unstoppable’

French energy company ENGIE says the movement toward clean energy is experiencing a “groundswell” as the global community embraces renewables at a fast pace, according to ABS CBN News.

In the piece, ENGIE president and CEO of its Asia-Pacific operations, Paul Maguire, said that the move to renewables by businesses and consumers is “almost unstoppable.” Maguire based this on the number of businesses approaching ENGIE to help them achieve sustainable energy goals.

In January, Electrify America tapped Engie Insight to provide utility expense, data management and rate monitoring and optimization solutions as part of a $2 billion, 10-year investment in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, access and education in the United States.

Despite having an estimated 800,000 electric vehicles on the road supported by around 18,000 charging stations, the United States lags in adoption, the companies say. Based in Reston, Virginia, Electrify America is currently investing in approximately 900 charging stations nationwide by mid-2019.

In July 2018, ENGIE announced it reached an agreement with Swiss asset manager SUSI to help develop what will be one of Norway’s largest wind farms.

SUSI, through a renewable energy fund, takes an 80% stake in Project Tonstad, a planned 208-megawatt wind farm in southern Norway. The French energy company keeps a 20% stake in a 51-turbine facility. Sandra Roche, the head of Engie’s regional subsidiary, said the partnership marks a first step for the French company in the Nordic renewable energy market.
