The Defense Logistics Agency Energy, on behalf of the United States Army Garrison Fort Hamilton, has struck a deal with Ameresco on an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC). The contract, which is valued at $16.7 million is for solar photovoltaics, water conservation and energy efficiency upgrades. The photovoltaic element of the contract includes 1.6 MW of capacity on carports and roottops at the base, which is in New York City.
The ESPC is budget neutral and will involve 32 buildings and 580,000 square feet. All told, nine energy conservation steps will be taken. These include installation of high-efficiency natural gas condensing boilers for heating, LED lighting and building automation for HVAC. The goal is to reduce energy consumption at Fort Hamilton by 37 percent.
Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, working on ESPCs with private contractors, exceeded the goal of reducing energy by 3 percent between October 2014 and last month. The base is on pace to save a half million dollars in energy and water expenditures this year.
